This Saturday – protest against Bet Fred’s plans to take over the Prince of Wales pub

The Prince of Wales was closed last autumn, however instead of the site being used as an opportunity to help improve the junction for local people, it seems it will become another betting shop as local councillors have had confirmation this week that Bet Fred has an agreement to take over the pub building on the corner of Harrow Road and Great Western Road – known as the “Prince of Wales Junction”.

Local councillors have organised a brief protest/mass photo on Saturday 7th March at 12.30 pm. This protest is not about general opposition to gambling but about the way these betting shops are clustering in an area with a number of vulnerable people. The pub site is one door down from a PaddyPower shop, with Coral and William Hill also nearby. So our local councillors are urging the council to do all it can to help stop this takeover and they need your support.

We need to show the council there is strong opposition to Bet Fred’s plans from the local community so that they do all that can be done to get a different outcome. We need to show Bet Fred that our community does not support their plans which will result in the loss of yet another local pub.

So if you have a few minutes (15-20 max) this Saturday please come and join the mass photo to show residents care about this problem. The meeting will start at 12.30pm (please arrive a bit before) outside the Prince of Wales pub (351 Harrow Road, London W9 3RA). Some of us will also be asking shoppers at Maida Hill Market to sign a petition against the betting shop.

If you can’t make it please consider adding your name to the current online petition https://linkis.com/westminster.gov.uk/P9GRM

Would be great to see you if you have time and please spread the word to friends and neighbours.
