The quitting conversation – how to change a smokers life in 30 seconds
Smoking tobacco is the leading cause of preventable premature death worldwide. An estimated 1 billion people across the world continue to smoke, with over 8 million deaths being linked to tobacco annually. 70% of smokers are willing to stop smoking at some point, but they need support. Very Brief Advice (VBA) is a 30-second intervention, cost-effective and person-centred approach to promote cessation by health and social care practitioners. Evidence suggests approximately 40% of smokers make some attempts to quit in response to receiving advice from a GP.
