A supplementary school at the heart of Westbourne
If you happen to do your shopping at the Parade in Harrow Road, or simply to walk along Westminster Academy on a Saturday morning, you may have wondered why Westminster Academy is so busy at that time, while Academy students are off for the weekend.
Well, wonder no longer. The Academy hosts El Nour Supplementary School, a long standing initiative of the African Women Group (one of our local voluntary organisations). The school provides children whose parents are Arabic speakers with comprehensive teaching in Arabic and the Kuran. This is to encourage children to value their family roots and cultural heritage while enabling them to validate their knowledge of Arabic through official exams. In the recent years, an increasing number of students have chosen to take GCSE Arabic, and have achieved the best grades.
